CLIMB. TRAIN. GATHER.
Welcome to the only dedicated climbing gym serving the Colorado High Country!
We are a member-owned and operated climbing gym co-op located in Silverthorne, CO. The Summit Climbing Gym’s mission is to provide a self-sustaining, safe, affordable, and fun indoor climbing facility for the community.
Membership Info
Welcome to our community
We are a co-op gym – member owned and operated – and that means you are going to be part of our “For climbers. By climbers” mantra. This also means that we don’t have staff at all times, so bear with us and we will bring you into the fold. Once you become a member, you will have access to the gym from 6 AM to 11 PM, 7 days a week!
What’s expected of you as a member
As a co-op gym we don’t have any staff. We aren’t able to offer much in the way of classes, although from time to time we do. However, we generally expect that you already have a little experience climbing and would be able to pass a top rope test (both climbing and belaying) before you join the gym. If you don’t know how to climb yet that’s OK! Breckenridge Recreation Center offers introductory climbing classes. You can find the list on their website here. Their “Learn to Top Rope” class will teach you everything you need to know to become a member. Breck Rec offers the class by appointment – just call anytime up to the day before to set up a class. They’re typically an hour and a half long and cost $35 per person. After this course members must pass a belay test at the Summit Climbing Gym with a staff member before climbing on their own. Save your receipt for the class and bring it to the gym when you sign up and we’ll waive the $50 initiation fee.
There are a number of things that need to be routinely done at the gym, and we ask that all members chip in and help when they’re able to. These tasks include cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, washing holds, emptying trash cans, putting out the trash and recycling, stripping old boulder problems, etc. – anything that helps the gym looking good and running smoothly. If you’re not sure what you can do to pitch in, just ask someone!
Otherwise we just want you to enjoy climbing and get to know the fantastic community of climbers at the Summit Climbing Gym!
Youth Members
All youth five years old, and older, must be paid members of SCG. Climbers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or other member while using the facility.
The board may vote to allow children under 16, but over 13, to have access during normal operating hours without an adult or other member present.
A parent must sign waivers for any youth using the gym facilities.

Monthly membership – $75

HOW TO JOIN
Come to the gym during staffed volunteer hours: Monday through Friday 6-8 PM. Please ring the doorbell or knock if the door is shut. Once you get into the gym find the volunteer in the fluorescent yellow shirt and they’ll be able to help you. If you don’t see a yellow shirt, feel free to ask anyone in the gym who the volunteer on duty is.
Work with the volunteer on duty to set up an account, sign the liability waiver, and purchase a membership. The volunteer will also give you a quick overview of how the gym works and what is expected of you as a member.
Take and pass a belay test. You can also take a lead climbing test if you want to lead climb in the gym.
Receive a key fob for gym access (as long as you pass the belay test).
Can’t make it during volunteer staff hours?
No problem! Please email summitclimbing970@gmail.com to schedule a time with staff.
Guests/Day Passes
SCG members may bring guests to the gym to climb, but there is a limit of 2 guests per member at one time. Guests must sign a waiver, purchase a Guest Pass ($20) and pass applicable Certification tests prior to climbing. Because we don’t have staff, we can’t offer day passes like typical commercial gyms offer. If you don’t know any members and you want to climb for a couple hours, the only option we offer is to come in during volunteer hours (Monday-Friday, 6-8 PM), take a belay test (or just stick to bouldering), and then you can climb while the volunteer is on duty (from 6-8 PM).
PLEASE NOTE: The Summit Climbing Gym is a co-op gym. All of the money for memberships goes into keeping the gym running. EVERYONE visiting the gym must have signed a waiver and pay for their use of the gym (either via a day pass or monthly/annual membership). If you are caught bringing someone to the gym who has not paid for their visit, YOUR membership will be terminated with NO refund.
Gym Rules
All members are SCG stakeholders; there are no owners or paid staff for the SCG and our success depends on the contributions of the entire membership. All members are encouraged to contribute to the maintenance, general upkeep and well-being of our shared, cooperative, climbing gym facility.
Lead By Example! If something is in need of repair, cleaning, or general upkeep, and you are capable of completing the task, take it on! If you’re not capable or don’t know how, alert a member of the volunteer staff or board so that appropriate repairs etc may be arranged and completed.

It is solely the member’s responsibility to ensure they have been properly tested and that their successful performance on the required test has been properly recorded in their member documentation.
Required certifications include:
1. Belay Test:
All belayers will be tested and certified prior to being allowed to belay within the facility. Two belay tests are offered:
Top Rope Belay Test
Lead Belay Test
2. Lead Climbing Test:
Prior to engaging in lead climbing, the member must pass a lead climbing test.
3. Auto Belay Test:
Prior to using the installed Auto Belay devices, members need to receive instruction in the proper use of auto belay equipment. The auto belay units are manufactured by TruBlue.
When to get certified
Gym volunteers are on site Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 8pm. Certifications can be completed at that time. To inquire about scheduling another time to complete certifications, please email summitclimbing970@gmail.com.
